A large scale tri-party engineering contract for the design of a Global Class mega passenger ship, to be built for the Hong Kong-based cruise line Star Cruises, was signed on July 28.

MV Werften, a group of three of the largest shipyards in the Germany, Engineering and consulting company Elomatic Ltd and Finnish ship designer Deltamarin Ltd are joining forces to design the vessel, which will be over 340 metres long, 45 metres wide and have a gross tonnage of 200,001.

The vessel would be the largest passenger ship ever built in Germany and one of the largest ever built world-wide, according to the companies.

The project will last almost 4 years and delivery to Star Cruises is scheduled for 2020.

The scope of work for Elomatic and Deltamarin includes engineering for the basic and detail design phases in all engineering disciplines.

The parties have not disclosed the value of the contract.
