The Carbon Trust-led Floating Wind Joint Industry Project has issued a tender to investigate the feasibility and technology development needs for heavy lift offshore operations in a floating wind farm.

The winner of the Heavy Lift Offshore Operations tender will be in charge of evaluating current state-of-the-art methods for undertaking heavy lift operations offshore, producing detailed method statements for offshore lifting operations during installation and heavy maintenance campaigns and identifying key technology gaps for floating-to-floating lifts, as well as evaluating technology development needs to enable and optimise floating-to-floating heavy lift offshore operations and engaging with the market to identify innovative solutions.

The deadline for sending clarification questions is 23:59 GMT 17 November, while the answers will be posted on Carbon Trust’s webpage by 24 November.

The closing date for submissions is 23:59 GMT 1 December 2017.

The Floating Wind Joint Industry Project (Floating Wind JIP) is a collaborative R&D initiative between The Carbon Trust and offshore wind developers Ørsted (DONG Energy), ENGIE, Eolfi, E.ON, innogy, Kyuden Mirai Energy, Statoil, EnBW, WPD and Vattenfall.

Supported by the Scottish Government, the JIP aims to investigate the challenges and opportunities of developing commercial-scale floating wind farms. Since its formation in 2016, the project has been delivered in two stages, each consisting of studies outlining the critical needs for the sector to reach cost parity with other energy technologies.
