Bombora seeks marine engineering services for mWave project
Bombora Wave Power Europe has invited tenders for the provision of marine engineering services that will support the design of its mWave demonstration project.
The wave energy developer is accepting proposals from companies and consortia until noon on September 21 and expects to award a contract on October 5.
DesignPro breathes life into its turbine in a new video
DesignPro Renewables has published an animation, created in cooperation with Norwegian company Rendering.no, that shows DesignPro’s hydrokinetic turbine technology and its transport, deployment and maintenance capabilities.
The concept involves two vertical axis turbines placed on each side of a teardrop shaped vessel. The vessel, coupled with the Blade Pitch Control System, speeds up the water into the turbines to produce significant energy in low flows of water, DesignPro writes.
European Commission gives go-ahead to EnFAIT tidal energy project
The European Commission has given its approval to the Enabling Future Arrays in Tidal (EnFAIT) tidal energy project to proceed to the next stage that will see an extension of the Bluemull Sound array to six turbines.
The EnFAIT project, which builds on Nova Innovation’s operational three-turbine tidal power station off the Shetland Islands in Scotland, aims to prove that the reliability and availability of tidal energy arrays can be significantly increased and that the cost of tidal energy can be reduced by at least 40%.
EMEC to request Section 36 consent for Billia Croo wave test site
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) is preparing to apply for a Section 36 consent for its full-scale wave energy test site, Billia Croo, to further improve the consenting process for technology developers testing at the site.
A Section 36 consent is required under the Electricity Act 1989, in order to accommodate generation capacity greater than 1MW.
EMEC holds a site-wide Section 36 consent for its Fall of Warness tidal energy test site, however, developers at Billia Croo have so far acquired the consent themselves.
Aquanet Power and Innosea join forces on wave energy projects
The Hong Kong-based Aquanet Power and France-headquartered Innosea have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on further enhancement of Aquanet’s wave energy technology and global project development.
The wave energy technology developer and marine engineering company will see their joint team operating from Aquanet Power’s UK branch in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Innosea also has its UK office.
