Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted has signed contracts with South Korea’s Samkang M&T and Hyundai Steel Industries for the supply of jacket foundations for the 900MW Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind project in Taiwan.

Samkang M&T will manufacture and deliver 28 jacket foundations, and Hyundai Engineering & Steel Industries 27 units, according to Korean media. The delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2021.

Back in November 2018, Ørsted ordered 56 jacket foundations for the Changhua 1 & 2a from Sing Da Marine Structure Corporation (SDMS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Steel Corporation (CSC).

Ørsted took the final investment decision onthe 900MW project in April.

Changhua 1 and 2a will be located 35-50 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County and will be constructed in 2021 and 2022. The wind farm will feature Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines.

Ørsted’s Greater Changhua offshore wind sites have a total potential capacity of 2.4GW. With a total of approximately 1.8GW earmarked for buildout in 2021 and 2025, the remaining 0.6GW can participate in future auction rounds, the developer said.
