Poland’s state-run gas firm PGNiG said it has sold the first two liquefied natural gas cargoes from the small-scale reloading station in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.

CRYO Shipping, a Norwegian LNG bunker fuel supplier, purchased both of the cargoes, according to a statement by PGNiG.

The cargoes were loaded onto two trucks and used to bunker the Greenland, a cement carrier moored at the Klaipeda port jetty and owned by Norway’s JT Cement.

“Despite the challenging market conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it took us only a week to launch our operations in Klaipeda”, said Jerzy Kwieciński , president of the PGNiG management board.

He added that this confirms the small-scale LNG markets in Lithuania and the other Baltic countries have “considerable potential”.

To remind, the Klaipeda reloading facility was launched on April 1st, 2020.

PGNiG is the sole user of the Klaipedos Nafta-operated small-scale facility, located at the entrance to the Klaipeda port.

The reloading station has five tanks with a total capacity of 5,000 cubic metres or 2,250 tonnes of LNG.

It is also equipped with two loading stations for LNG trucks and ISO containers, which can be used simultaneously.

The jetty of the station makes it possible not only to receive LNG from vessels but also to load the chilled fuel.
