Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, has announced the completion of a dredging project on the Gold Coast Seaway and Broadwater.
The $4.65 million dredging project, which will improve safety for small and medium sized vessels crossing the Gold Coast Seaway bar, was finished well ahead of schedule, the minister said.
The project will also ensure ongoing access for commercial vessels including trawlers, the local whale-watching fleet and superyachts coming in for maintenance and servicing to the local marine industry hubs at Coomera and in the southern Broadwater.
According to the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA), the project was done by a south-east Queensland firm, Riverside Marine.
During the campaign, the contractor removed over 400,000 m³ from the Seaway bar and adjacent channels. The dredged material was beneficially reused to nourish Gold Coast beaches.
