The BP-led Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project on the maritime border of Mauritania and Senegal is 75 per cent complete, according to the project shareholder Kosmos Energy.
U.S.-based oil and gas company Kosmos Energy revelaed its ts financial and operating results for the first quarter of 2022. The document specifically highlighted that Phase One of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project is approximately 75 per cent complete at quarter-end.
This is an offshore LNG project based on upstream gas production in waters that are two kilometres deep. It takes place on the maritime border of Mauritania and Senegal. The project partners include BP, Kosmos Energy, Petrosen, and Societe Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMHPM) with BP as the operator.
Developing in phases, the FLNG project will produce up to 10 million tonnes of LNG a year (MTPA). However, it is to produce 2.5 MTPA of LNG in its first phase of development.
Kosmos reports that in this quarter the FLNG has started pipe rack outfitting and equipment installation and testing.
Commenting on the performance, CEO Andrew G. Inglis said: “We are well-positioned for the energy transition and believe we will have an increasingly important role to play in providing energy security to countries looking to diversify from current supply sources with cost-competitive and geographically advantaged LNG.”
In November 2021, Platts reported that Phase Two of the project eyes a final investment decision by late 2022 or early 2023. Under Phase Two, the production capacity will double to 5 MTPA.
