Greece’s Hellenic Cables has secured a turnkey contract with Greek transmission system operator (TSO) Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) for the submarine interconnection of the Ionian islands.
Under the contract, Cenergy Holdings’ cable segment is in charge of the design, supply, and installation of approximately 38 kilometers of 150 kV submarine and land cables, which will enhance the electrical interconnections between Kefalonia-Zakynthos and Lefkada-Kefalonia.
The submarine cables will be manufactured at Hellenic Cables’ plant in Corinth, which was recently expanded, while the land cables will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Thiva, also undergoing a capacity expansion investment program.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Hellenic Cables was also the main EPCI contractor for the Zakynthos-Kyllini interconnection, also part of the Ionian Islands, put into operation in the summer of 2023.
In terms of other recent news coming from the company, it was announced in April that Hellenic Cables Americas was planning to build a new cable manufacturing facility in Maryland, the U.S., of approximate value of $300 million.
The first milestone for the development of the facility was reported this summer when the final investment decision (FID) was reached.
