UK-headquartered CRP Subsea, part of AIS, has been hired to supply its distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) to a deepwater oil field project in the pre-salt Santos Basin, off the coast of Brazil.
CRP Subsea did not reveal the exact value of the contract. However, it did describe it as a substantial one, entailing the supply of its distributed buoyancy modules to an oil project in Brazilian waters. The manufacturing of DBMs for this deal, secured with an undisclosed energy technology company, will take place at the firm’s facility in the North West of England.

While highlighting that project engineering works are set to begin immediately, with delivery scheduled for next year, the company explains that the DBMs will play “a vital role” in supporting risers, which transport fluids from subsea facilities to a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
Moreover, the DBMs will be used to ensure a dynamic subsea lazy-wave configuration, reducing the top tension at the termination point. As the clamping solution is designed to provide controlled, circumferential clamping pressure around the riser, CRP Subsea claims that this not only maintains the position of the DBM but also eliminates the risk of pipeline damage and extends the operational life of the field.
The UK firm has won multiple new deals this year, including a contract for DBMs in January 2024 for a Brazilian oil project, followed by another in June 2024 for the supply of over 300 distributed buoyancy modules for three deepwater oil field projects in the pre-salt Santos Basin.
Recently, CRP Subsea also landed a new assignment to provide a protection solution for two high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables and a fiber optic cable (FOC) destined for an underwater green electricity project between the U.S. and Canada.
