ExxonMobil has selected Sercel, Viridien’s sensing and monitoring business line, to deliver a software tool to optimize maritime operations and support pipelay and mooring installation campaigns at a deepwater oil development project offshore Guyana.
Under a one-year contract awarded by ExxonMobil Global Projects, Sercel will deploy its Marlin solution on the Whiptail project located in the Stabroek Block to assist in the management of simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
According to the company, for SIMOPS, the platform delivers a live, time‑based geospatial view of concurrent offshore activities, providing teams with the vessel and asset awareness required to plan, coordinate, and execute operations safely in high‑activity environments. The tool includes full-system configuration, onboarding, operational reviews, and 24/7 operational support.

The $12.7 billion Whiptail oil project was sanctioned as ExxonMobil’s sixth project in Guyana’s Stabroek block, with SBM Offshore tasked with the front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the project’s FPSO unit.
