Carnegie Clean Energy has completed the foundation structures of the scaled CETO wave energy unit in preparation for deployment at Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) as part of the ACHIEVE Programme.
CETO is a fully submerged, point absorber-type wave energy technology device. A submerged buoy sits a few meters below the surface and moves with the ocean’s waves. This orbital motion drives a PTO system that converts this motion into electricity.
Carnegie Clean Energy reported today, September 22, that the final preparations had been completed for the foundation, making it ready for deployment of the CETO Buoyant Actuator commencing in October as the first step in ACHIEVE Programme’s staged deployment, commissioning and testing at BiMEP.
Furthermore, the assembly of CETO power take-off (PTO) modules is underway , integrating all power-generating equipment in advance of testing and subsequent integration in the second stage of deployment, while the modular buoyant actuator fabrication is also nearing completion in the Basque Country.
Following completion of the buoyant actuator, it will be transported to the port and prepared for the first stage of deployment. In parallel, the PTO module testing will be undertaken nearby to commission the power-generating assembly in advance of its offshore deployment in the second stage.
The unit will operate at BiMEP for two years, gathering data to validate CETO technology and advance commercialization.
