Denmark-headquartered NKT has inaugurated its expanded power cable factory in Esposende, Portugal, founded in 1968.
NKT marked the completion of its investment to expand its medium- and high-voltage power cable production in Esposende on October 20 with an inauguration event and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The €50 million investment includes new production lines and equipment, new CCV capabilities and enhanced testing facilities.

As a result of the expansion, over 150 new employees joined the site, bringing the total number of employees to 580.
The expanded factory will now enter a ramp-up phase, with the new capacity and capabilities gradually becoming operational over the coming months.
This comes approximately two years after the Danish company acquired Portuguese power cable manufacturer SolidAl in June 2024, after which the acquired business was rebranded to NKT in June the following year.
“The progress we have made through this investment marks an important milestone for NKT and for our colleagues in Esposende. In just over two years, we have moved from acquiring SolidAl to integrating and significantly expanding the site," said Carlos Fernandez, Executive Vice President, Head of Distribution in NKT.
"The new capacity and capabilities strengthen our ability to support our customers as they expand and modernise their power grids, while establishing Esposende as an important part of NKT’s European manufacturing footprint. We are proud to continue investing in the site, its people and our operations in Portugal.”
