CHC choppers for Wintershall’s Maria field drilling program

CHC Group will provide helicopter services during Wintershall’s drilling program at the Maria Field in the Norwegian Sea.

CHC said on Wednesday that the operation would begin in March 2017, flying from CHC’s base in Kristiansund using a Sikorsky S-92 helicopter.

Wintershall’s drilling program is expected to last for an initial period of approximately 550 days. The contract includes an option to extend CHC’s services beyond thes initial period.

In May, Wintershall awarded a series of contracts for the supply of well completion equipment and services for the Maria development as well as for other operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Wintershall said at the time that it planned to drill six subsea wells on the Maria field in 2017 using Odfjell Drilling’s sixth-gen, ultra deepwater and harsh environment semi-submersible Deep Sea Stavanger.

The Maria field is located approximately 20 kilometers east of the Kristin field and about 45 kilometers south of the Heidrun field on the Halten Terrace in blocks 6407/1 and 6406/3 in the Norwegian Sea. Wintershall Norge is the operator of the license with a 50 percent share. Petoro has a 30 percent share, and Centrica Resources (Norge) owns the remaining 20 percent.

To remind, CHC was awarded a contract with Shell last week for the provision of three helicopters for the Prelude FLNG project.
