Decom Offshore 2015 to promote cost reduction in decommissioning

Decom North Sea (DNS), the representative body for the offshore decommissioning industry, will be hosting Decom Offshore 2015 in order to “continue its work to drive and facilitate a sustainable and efficient decommissioning industry”.

Entitled Decommissioning – The Economic and Operational Challenges, this one-day conference is sponsored by DNV GL and will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre (AECC), on May 27. It aims to place the decommissioning sector in context at a time when industry is faced with enormous economic and operational pressures.

Decom Offshore 2015 will reflect the key purpose of DNS, which acts as the driving force behind sector knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation. With an overall objective to promote efficiency and reduce the cost of decommissioning, the conference will bring over 200 decommissioning professionals together, showcasing innovation and encouraging collaboration and entrepreneurial flair at this critical time for the North Sea oil and gas industry, DNS said in the press release.

“The aim of this interactive event is to bring both operators and the supply chain together to investigate the impact of the current market and the resulting pressures that face the decommissioning sector.”

The conference will give operators the opportunity to present their current and future decommissioning plans and learn about suppliers’ innovative products and solutions. The suppliers in attendance will explore how business opportunities can be optimised by contributing to the Maximising Economic Recovery strategy through efficient decommissioning practice.

Decom North Sea chief executive, Nigel Jenkins, said: “The third Decom Offshore conference sees the North Sea oil and gas industry dealing with some very challenging times. The aim of this interactive event is to bring both operators and the supply chain together to investigate the impact of the current market and the resulting pressures that face the decommissioning sector.

“By providing informative sessions from both perspectives, as well as insight from industry bodies, DNS is providing the sector with the opportunity to move on from the discussion phase into meaningful collaboration, which will ensure that all forthcoming decommissioning activity is undertaken in the safest, most environmentally friendly and cost effective way.”
