Dutch DCN to Invest in ROV Division

To fully complete its range of services, the management of Bergen op Zoom-based DCN Diving has officially launched its own ROV division, on 1 March 2013. As from that date, Fred Bosman (40) took up the position of ROV Operations Manager. Bosman acquired his experience with robotic underwater systems with the Royal Dutch Navy, and for the past 13 years has been employed as ROV supervisor in the offshore oil and gas industry.

DCN has now purchased two new observation ROVs that can be deployed in a variety of configurations in a wide range of tasks including construction, inspection, installation, repair, recovery and support, The ROVs in question are the Seaeye Falcon DR Observation Class ROV, capable of operating in water depths of up to 1000 metres, and the compact Seaeye Cougar-XT Observation Class ROV for less demanding tasks at a maximum depth of 2000 metres. Both extremely reliable ROVs are equipped with cameras and a full array of measuring equipment and tools to support undersea construction and IRM activities for the oil and gas industry, and the wind energy market. Since the ROV division was launched, two contracts have already been signed.

Offshore Director Rob Vriens of DCN Diving, explained: “For saturation tasks offshore, use of an ROV has been an absolute requirement for some time. It appears extremely likely that ever stricter requirements will lead to further intensification of the deployment of ROVs. In a number of projects, diving is in fact a complete taboo. Hence the decision to establish our own fleet of advanced ROVs. This decision will make DCN a complete underwater contractor, which thanks to our own habitats means we are able to successfully execute even the most eye-catching underwater projects, as operational diving company, anywhere in the world. Our focus is clearly on projects in which we can deliver added value in the form of innovative engineering. Over the past few years, in a series of different projects, we have demonstrated that that is the area in which our real strength lies.
