Hanssen holds extensive experience from the petroleum industry. From 1992 she worked for Norsk Hydro Oil and Gas in positions such as Reservoir Engineer, Offshore Installation Manager on Troll B, Exploration Manager and Head of Field Development. Following the merger with Statoil she held the position of Senior Vice President for Gas Supply and Infrastructure.

From 2008 to 2013 she had the position as Investment Director in Aker ASA. She has served on the board of directors in Det norske oljeselskap ASA, Setanta Energy BV, EMGS ASA and Hafslund ASA.

Jean-Marie Dauger, Chairman of GDF SUEZ E&P Norge welcomes Hanssen to the GDF SUEZ team: “Her comprehensive and varied experience within E&P has singled Maria out for the position as Managing Director of GDF SUEZ E&P Norge. I look forward to her contribution to the company and have assured her of our full support in her new role.”

Maria Moræus Hanssen states that she is looking forward to heading up a strong E&P player on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, with a balanced portfolio including an operated offshore production installation. “GDF SUEZ E&P Norge clearly differentiates itself from its peers on the NCS with the operatorship of the Gjøa field. I am impressed with the way they have managed to build an organization in Norway and successfully take over the operatorship of Gjøa. I am looking forward to meeting the whole team, including my new colleagues on the Gjøa platform and at the Florø base. I am confident that we together will be able to continue the growth story of GDF SUEZ E&P on the NCS.”
