Greece approves oil firms’ exploration applications

Greek energy ministry has approved applications of the consortium of Total, ExxonMobil, and Hellenic Petroleum, and separately, Energean to explore for oil and gas offshore.

The Total-ExxonMobil-Hellenic Petroleum consortium has applied for the the areas south and west of Crete. Greek company, Energean Oil & Gas is looking to explore for oil and gas in the area offshore Western Greece.

Energean has confirmed the award via a social media account, at the same time sharing a map of the area of interest.

“Dear friends, the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy announced on Friday that it has accepted Energean’s expression of interest in hydrocarbons exploration over an offshore area in the Ionian Sea, Western Greece. Following to the approval, the Hellenic Hydrocarbons Resources Management said that it will publish a call for tenders in the European Union’s Gazette by the end of July. A new area is opening!,” Energean said.
