Green light for Prosafe’s newbuild flotel Safe Zephyrus

Prosafe has received the Petroleum Safety Authority’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the newbuild flotel Safe Zephyrus.

The flotel, built by Sembcorp Marine’s Jurong Shipyard, was completed in November 2015 and delivered to its owner in January 2016.

Safe Zephyrus is a semi-submersible accommodation rig which is to operate on behalf of Det Norske on its first commission on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

According to the Norwegian agency’s assessment, petroleum activities may be carried out using the Safe Zephyrus within the regulatory framework.

The validity of the AoC assumes that Prosafe AS ensures that the flotel and relevant parts of the company’s organisation and management systems are maintained, to fulfil the terms and conditions set out in the PSA’s decision.

Built based on the GVA 3000E design, the Safe Zephyrus will be capable of operating gangway connected in deep water and in harsh environments alongside fixed platforms, floating platforms and floating production offloading vessels.

The 450-person capacity Dynamic Positioning class 3 (DP3) accommodation rig features a 12-point mooring system suitable for harsh-environment operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The offshore safety watchdog recently also gave its consent to Songa Offshore to operate the fourth and final Cat D rig Songa Enabler.
