Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) said on Friday it had given its consent to Vår Energi to use the Ringhorne platform for production drilling on the field, as well as completion and workover.

The drilling operations are scheduled to begin in March 2019 and will last until March 2021, the regulator said.

The Ringhorne platform is a fixed quarters, drilling and wellhead installation. The facility is part of the Balder field, which is situated in PL 027 and 169 E in the central North Sea, 160 kilometers west of Haugesund. Production from the field started in 2003.

Recently, Vår Energi – formed in December 2018 through a combination of Point Resources and Eni Norge – agreed to sell a share in six offshore licenses across the Balder and Ringhorne fields in Norway to Mime Petroleum. Through this deal it was agreed for Mime Petroleum to acquire 10 percent interests in the Balder and Ringhorne fields, as well as a 7.4 percent interest in the Ringhorne East field.

The companies have agreed not to disclose the value of the transaction, which is subject to customary government approvals. The deal is expected to complete later this year.
