Helix Starts Petrobras Contract

Offshore services player Helix Energy Solutions has kicked off its well intervention services campaign offshore Brazil under a multi-year contract with Petrobras.

The vessel Siem Helix 1 was initially rescheduled to start operations between July 22, 2016 and October 21, 2016. However, Helix moved up its expectations to start commercial operations in Q1 of 2017, claiming that the well intervention newbuild had still been working through the inspection and acceptance process with Petrobras.

The company said on Wednesday it has agreed with Petrobras to begin operations at reduced day rates for Siem Helix 1 as they work through certain items identified in the vessel acceptance process.

The contract for the sister vessel Siem Helix 2, originally scheduled to begin no later than January 21, 2017, was amended to start between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. The day rate under this contract was not changed.

Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2 were chartered by the Helix Energy Solutions in 2014 for an initial period of 7 years, with options to extend the charter up to 22 years.
