IKM testing wins Mariner topside contract from Statoil

Statoil has awarded IKM Testing, a Norwegian supplier to the oil and gas industry, a contract for commissioning services on the Mariner topside project.

On the topside, IKM Testing will do the N2/He leak testing, but the contract leaves options for bolt work, hot oil flushing, chemical cleaning and flange machining. The work will include personnel, equipment and consumables.

The topside has been under construction in South Korea at Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine & Engineering (DSME) yard.

The contract awarded to IKM Testing includes the work that starts in South Korea in the fourth quarter 2015 and will continue after the topside arrives the Mariner field in the UK.

The field is located approximately 150 kilometres east of the Shetland Isles, which is currently under development by operator Statoil and its partners. The topside is expected to reach its offshore UK location in mid January 2016. IKM Testing’s subsidiaries in South Korea, Singapore and the UK will assist with personnel and equipment to the project.

The Mariner heavy oil field is one of the largest UK’s oil fields with estimated 300 to 500 MMbbl (million barrels) of recoverable oil. According to Statoil, the Mariner field development entails a gross investment of more than $7 billion. It is expected to start production in 2017.

Jens Bolme, International Sales and Marketing Director in IKM Testing said: “We are very pleased to be awarded this contract which is also great news for IKM Testing’s subsidiaries in Korea, Singapore and the UK which will assist with personnel and equipment to the project.”

IKM Testing performed similar work scope for Statoil on the Valemon topside in 2014.
