SR2000 tidal turbine assembly well underway at Harland & Wolff’s facility, UK.

Scotrenewables Tidal Power’s SR2000 tidal turbine will have a rated capacity of 2 MW at 3 m/s flow. It builds upon the SR250 tidal turbine prototype, with design and capacity improvements.

It consists of a 64 m floating hull that incorporates two 1 MW rotors mounted on retractable legs.

The hull sections will also house the turbine’s electrical and control equipment, allowing direct access to the turbine for maintenance while at sea.

SR2000 is expected to be launched in 2015, and will undergo demonstration programme at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) ahead of sale of units to tidal array developers.
