Iran opens new gas storage facility

Iran’s Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has inaugurated the Middle East’s largest gas storage facility in northeastern Iran on Sunday, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said in a report.

The Shourijeh gas facility can supply 20 million cubic meters of gas per day (MMcm/d) in winter, according to the report.

The gas storage facility is to increase Iran’s gas delivery capacity by 10 MMcm in the first phase. Currently 7 million cubic meters of gas per day is being injected to the facility.

It is located at the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, and has the capacity to store 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
