Italy: OLT receives peak shaving LNG cargo

Italy’s OLT Offshore LNG Toscana, operator of the FSRU Toscana located about 22 km off the coast between Livorno and Pisa, said it received a cargo of chilled gas on December 13.

The LNG was unloaded by the 155,000 cbm Gaslog Saratoga, one of the largest LNG carriers so far discharged in Italy, OLT said in a statement on Monday.

This activity is related to the tender launched by OLT within the procedure for the peak shaving service, awarded on November 20th.

Liquefied natural gas delivered by the Gaslog Saratoga will be stored at the terminal until March 31, 2016, and available for regasification upon request of Snam Rete Gas, the Italian gas distribution company.

The peak shaving service is one of the emergency measures established by the Decree of the Ministry of the Economic Development to face “unfavorable events for the national gas system, which could occur during the winter period and to guarantee the security of the Italian gas system“.
