January brings increase to offshore rig count

The international offshore rig count recorded an increase of ten units in January 2023 compared to December last year, according to the latest rig count report from Baker Hughes.

The international rig count is up 60 rigs from last year’s count of 841, with offshore rigs up 31 and onshore rigs up 29.

Compared to December 2022, the international rig count is up one rig, to 901, with offshore rigs up 10 to 226 and land rigs down 9 to 675.

According to Baker Hughes, the average U.S. rig count for January was 772, down seven from December, and up 171 year-over-year.

The average Canada rig count for January was up 71 rigs from the prior month’s count of 155 and up 36 year-over-year.

In terms of the worldwide rig count for January, it was 1,899, up 65 from the 1,834 counted in December 2022, and up 267, from the 1,632 counted in January 2022.
