Japan: LNG Imports Rise 1 Percent in 2013/14

Japan, the world’s biggest buyer of liquefied natural gas, imported 87.73 million tonnes of LNG in the fiscal year ended in March, up 1 percent compared to the same period a year ago, the country’s Ministry of Finance said on Monday.

The country imported 8.04 million tonnes of LNG last month, up 3.9 percent compared to March in 2013.

Japan’s LNG imports have been rising steadily after it shut all its nuclear reactors in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
