LOC said last week that the two-year contract was an extension for continued performance of marine consultancy, marine warranty, and assurance services.

According to the company, this will include work on phase two of Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia, which is seen as one of the world’s largest natural gas projects.

Alex Harrison, Regional Director of LOC SE Asia & Pacific, said: “LOC Australia has made a strong start to the year. We continue to see significant demand for our services in the region and will look to build on this contract win over the rest of 2019.”

Recently, Chevron awarded an offshore pipeline installation scope on the project to Allseas which said in late May that it was on the lookout for an anchor handler to support its work on Gorgon 2.

Operations during installation work are planned from the second quarter of 2020, with the execution of works expected in Q4 2020/Q1 2021 period.

It is also worth noting that Chevron started the Gorgon 2 drilling campaign earlier this month. The campaign will drill 11 additional wells in the Gorgon and Jansz-Io gas fields.

Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project is located on Barrow Island off the northwest coast of Western Australia. Gorgon comprises a three-train, 15.6 million tonnes per annum LNG facility and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terajoules of gas per day to Western Australia.

The project is operated by Chevron, while other shareholders are ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas, and Chubu Electric Power.
