The company has placed an order for a MR pair with compatriot Onomichi Dockyard, data from Asiasis shows.

The duo, costing Nissen Kaiun around USD 36 million apiece, is expected for delivery in 2020.

Based on the market information, the two newbuildings will be chartered out to Chevron.

The latest order follows a similar one placed in June when the Japanese shipowner ordered two 49,000 dwt MR2 tankers from Japan Marine United. The two newbuildings are slated for delivery in 2019.

Not counting the most recent tanker contract, Nissen Kaiun has 33 newbuilings on order at various Japanese shipbuilders, data from VesselsValue shows.

These include 12 Panamax bulkers, four Aframax tankers, two Ultramaxes, five Sub Panamaxes, seven MR2 tankers, one VLCC, one VLGC LPG and one small chemical tanker.
