Norway: Kleven Maritime to Build PSV Vessel for Meling Supply AS

Meling Supply orders at Kleven Maritime – 1 multifunctional platform supply vessel, design VS 485, for delivery in February 2011

Kleven Maritime has entered into contract with Meling Supply AS for the building of one multifunctional platform supply vessel, design VS 485, designed by Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway. The company Meling Supply AS is a wholly owned subsidiary of the shipowner O. H. Meling & Co. AS in Stavanger, Norway. The vessel will be outfitted at Myklebust Verft in Gursken, Norway, delivery date is February 28, 2011. This is the third contract for Kleven Maritime within a month of the same vessel design, VS 485.

For Kleven Maritime it is especially welcome that Meling Supply returns to the group, as Kleven Maritime previously has delivered the vessel, “Siddis Skipper”, in 2004 to the shipowner.

”For the employees at Myklebust Verft this new contract is most welcome. The new contract will contribute to having continuous activity at the yard until the contract for “Prestfjord” will be realised”, CEO Ståle Rasmussen comments.

For the shipowner Meling Supply, this is also a happy occasion; ”For us its very nice to make business with Kleven once more. Our relations with Kleven are long term and strong.

The new vessel represents a new generation of environmentally friendly and robust platform supply vessels, where much attention is put on low emissions, fuel economy and optimised cargo capacity both above and below deck. Ice class ICE C makes the vessel suitable for operations in the north, and oil recovery equipment (OIL REC) adds further value to the vessel in the market. Deadweight is around 4 500 tons, loa 88 meters, beam 20 meters, deck space about 1 000 sq.m. The vessel has accommodation and certificate for 64 persons. The hull for the vessel is prepared for installation of crane and helicopter deck.

Wärtsilä will be delivering design, automation and electrical systems. The contracts will also ensure deliveries for local suppliers such as Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Rolls-Royce Marine.

The contract value is approx. MNOK 375. Kleven Maritime now has an order book of 11 vessels at a total value of NOK 5.3 bill.
