Primo Marine Supports NorNed Interconnector Ops

Primo Marine, headquartered in Rotterdam, has supported the tender for lowering of the cable and remedial cable burial on the NorNed Interconnector in Eemshaven area, The Netherlands.

The NorNed cable is a 580-kilometer high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector cable between Feda, Norway, and the seaport of Eemshaven, which connects both countries’ electrical grids. NorNed is a joint project of the Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett and its Dutch counterpart TenneT TSO B.V.

The area featured unstable conditions due to strong currents. Therefore, remedial burial of the cable was necessary to fulfil authorities’ permits. An additional lowering of the cable in the shipping channel, Westereems, was necessary to provide the authorities the opportunity to execute ‘Deepening of the Westereems’ project, Primo Marine explained.

Primo Marine’s scope included the contribution to tender management, including the preparation of all technical tender documentation applying EU procurement regulations, pre-qualification &, expression of interest documents, plus the evaluation and verification and contract award.

Jaap Smit, founder of Primo Marine, said: “Primo Marine has extensive knowledge of the NorNed Interconnector cable, due to our involvement since construction dating back to 2006. Deep knowledge of the cable, the area and waters, ensured we were able to support our client with this campaign.”
