In a social media post on Friday, Prosafe said. “Farewell, Safe Astoria! The Safe Astoria is in the process of being sold for recycling.”

Prosafe’s Safe Astoria was built in 1983, and converted to an accommodation vessel in 2004/2005 at Keppel FELS Shipyard in Singapore.

This will be the sixth vessel that Prosafe will have sold for recycling since 2016. The Safe Astoria has been cold-stacked since 2016.

According to the company, the Safe Astoria has, amongst others, previously supported projects for Woodside in Australia, SEIC in Sakhalin, ConocoPhillips in Indonesia, and Shell in the Philippines.

Safe Astoria offered accommodation for 349 persons including facilities for recreation, catering, offices, and plant areas. The rig could be linked to the host installation by an automated gangway and could also function as an emergency temporary refuge.
