Prysmian buys Scottish training facility for cable jointers

Italian cabling company Prysmian has acquired a training facility for high-voltage cable jointers in Scotland, bringing on board over 20 apprentice jointers and experienced training staff.

Located in North Ayrshire, the academy will support installation and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) operations in the UK and across Europe, helping to ensure the availability of highly trained personnel involved in the delivery of the underground and subsea high-voltage transmission cable projects, Prysmian said.

According to the Italian firm, the acquisition of the facility will secure the future training program and employment opportunities for the many apprentices who have undertaken extensive training at the North Ayrshire facility over the last three years.

This investment complements Prysmian’s existing UK manufacturing and services locations, including facilities in Bishopstoke, Wrexham, Aberdare, and its global marine base in the port of Middlesbrough.
