Report: Forouzan platform will be manufactured in Iran, IOEC says

Iran has said it would manufacture the Fouruzan oil field platform in its own yard, after a South Korean shipyard failed to make significant progress.

According to Iranian oil ministry’s news agency, Shana, the first consignment of Foruzan field’s offshore platform made in South Korea will be imported by April 20 to be manufactured by the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC).

Managing director of IOEC, Gholamreza Manuchehri, told Shana: “The 7,800-ton structure will be manufactured in Khoramshahr Port’s yard by the IOEC and Korean engineers.”

The news agency also reported that IOEC chief criticized the decision to construct the platform in South Korea despite of IOEC’s capacity to make it locally and said, “Considering the lack of due progress in manufacturing the oil rig abroad, we managed to ship it to Iran after extensive legal work.”

Manuchehri also added that after installation, the Forouzan platform would double production from the oilfield to 80 thousand barrels as day.

Forouzan oil field is located in the Persian Gulf, 100 kilometers southwest of the Kharg Island.
