Report: Russia stops work on Turkstream

Project & Tenders

Russia has reportedly decided to halt work on the Turkstream pipeline, designed to carry Russian gas through the Black Sea to Turkey.

According to RIA Novosti, the news has been revealed by the Russian Energy Minister, Aleksander Novak, who said that intergovernmental negotiations between Turkey and Russia on the project have been suspended.

Offshore Energy Today previously reported on the potential project cancellation, after Turkey last week shot down a Russian warplane, citing breach of airspace as a reason.

Following the incident, Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev said Russia would impose special economic measures against Turkey, aimed “against Turkish companies, Turkish businesses and Turkish professionals, as well as several transactions regarding the import of commodities that originated in Turkey.”
