Rigmar to support Maersk Drilling’s UK North Sea ops

Aberdeen-based Rigmar Services has been awarded a contract by Maersk Drilling to support its operations in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Rigmar said on Wednesday that the new contract with Maersk would be managed from the company’s offices in Aberdeen. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The firm’s engineering department, which specializes in design and structural analysis, and its fabrication facilities located on the quayside in the Port of Cromarty Firth will provide support for the duration of the contract.

Keith Nelson, Rigmar’s CEO, said that the company was delighted with the award which would allow it to deliver safe, cost-effective, and efficient services by utilizing its experienced personnel.

The new contract expands Rigmar’s support of Maersk as it is already providing maintenance services on board the Danish offshore driller’s jack-up drilling rig Maersk Highlander.

The 400ft rig, formerly known as the Hercules Highlander, is working on a $420 million-worth five-year drilling contract with Maersk Oil and its partners, BP and JX Nippon, on the Culzean field.

The field, located some 233 kilometers east of Aberdeen, is considered as the largest hydrocarbon discovery in the UK North Sea for over a decade.

Rigmar Services Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Rigmar Group, also headquartered in Aberdeen, UK.
