Romanian Jack-Up Rig Starts Drilling in Mexico

The GSP Fortuna jack-up rig yesterday initiated drilling operations under an 894 days contract with Mexico’s state-run oil company PEMEX.  GSP Fortuna is a three legs cantilever type self elevating unit of Friede & Goldman L-780 Model II design. At the beginning of the long term contract with PEMEX, GSP Fortuna was assigned drilling operations in Dos Bocas field.

Currently GSP operates in the Gulf of Mexico with three MODUS, GSP Atlas, GSP Fortuna and GSP Orizont. The first two GSP MODUs, GSP Atlas and GSP Orizont initiated the drilling campaign in the Gulf of Mexico back in 2011.

In order to support the offshore operations in GOM, GSP has established the representative office GSP Offshore Mexico and an operational base in Ciudad del Carmen, providing local coordination and support for all Mexican offshore operations. Prior to this assignment, the GSP Fortuna carried out a drilling campaign in the Kavala Gulf, in the Prinos oil field, northern Greece for Energean Oil & Gas.
