Saipem said on Monday that it would use the Scarabeo 9 semi-submersible rig and the Perro Negro 8 jack-up rig for these contracts.

The company is expected to drill a well in Romania’s Black Sea waters in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Works will be executed by the semi-submersible rig Scarabeo 9, a drilling unit suitable for operations in the area, thanks to its ability to lower its tower which enables the crossing of the Bosphorus Strait, the company explained.

The rig’s previous contract, which ended in April 2019, was with Eni offshore Egypt. According to Bassoe Offshore, this new contract is also with Eni, and the dayrate is estimated to be around $190,000.

In addition, a contract has been awarded for drilling works offshore Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The drilling activities will be carried out by the high spec jack-up Perro Negro 8, in continuity with current operations. The contract will have a duration of four years.

Information on Bassoe Offshore shows that Perro Negro 8 has been working for ADNOC off the UAE since December 2017. The rig currently operates under a dayrate of $55,000, but Bassoe estimates that the rig’s dayrate under the new contract – which starts in October – will be $85,000.
