Seaspan continues ordering spree with 6 more boxships
Seaspan Corporation, a Hong Kong-based owner and operator of containerships, has placed an order for six 15,000 TEU newbuild containerships, bringing its total orderbook to 45.
The company announced it has entered into an agreement with an undisclosed shipyard for the construction of the ships with deliveries planned for the first and second quarters of 2024.
Furthermore, all vessels will be scrubber-fitted and will enter long-term charters with unnamed global liner upon deliveries, according to Seaspan.
Last week, the company signed the agreement for the construction of two new 12,000 TEU containerships, scheduled for delivery during the fourth quarter of 2022.
With this latest order, Seaspan increases its newbuild orderbook to 45 ships, with all orders placed since December 2020.
Moreover, the company has also acquired four second-hand vessels, two of which have since been delivered.
The purchase will be completed from additional borrowings as well as cash on hand, Seaspan said.
The orders will increase Seaspan’s total capacity to 1,784,200 TEU on a fully delivered basis, from 129 ships representing 1,090,200 TEU currently.
