Shelf Drilling lands three-year gig in India

Offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling has received an award for a three-year contract for the Trident II jack-up rig.

The rig owner said on Wednesday that the contract is with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for operations in the Mumbai High, offshore India.

The planned start-up of operations is in the first quarter of 2020.

The rig’s previous contract was also with ONGC with a dayrate of $49,000. The contract expired in May 2019. According to Bassoe, the rig’s dayrate for the new contract is $40,000.

The Trident II jack-up rig was built in 1977 and the last upgrade was done in 1985.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shelf Drilling also said it had secured a three-year contract extension for the High Island VII jack-up rig. In addition, earlier this week, Shelf won contract extensions for four of its jack-up drilling rigs.
