Siem’s anchor handling duo to support Exxon’s Canadian ops

Secunda Canada LP, a subsidiary of Siem Offshore, has been awarded contracts for two anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels by ExxonMobil Canada.

Siem became a 100 percent owner of Secunda Canada in May last year after buying the other 50 percent interest in the Canadian company.

According to the parent company’s filing to Oslo Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the contracts for the Burin Sea and Trinity Sea vessels are for a two-year firm contract, plus 12 monthly options.

Both Burin Sea and Trinity Sea anchor handlers were built in 1983 by Stocznia Szczecinska Shipyard.

The two vessels will join the platform supplier Siem Hanne and the anchor handler Venture Sea in supporting operations at the Sable offshore energy project.

The project has been producing natural gas and liquids since 1999. It involves the development of five natural gas fields near Sable Island which is located approximately 225 km off the east coast of Nova Scotia.
