Statoil picks up drilling permit for Norwegian Sea wildcat

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Statoil Petroleum a drilling permit for well 6608/10-17 S, offshore Norway. 

The well 6608/10-17 S will be drilled from the Deepsea Bergen semi-submersible drilling rig built in 1983 and owned by Odfjell Drilling.

The drilling program for well 6608/10-17 S relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 128 in the Norwegian Sea in a prospect called Cape Vulture.

Statoil Petroleum is the operator with an ownership interest of 63.95 per cent. The other licensees are Petoro with 24.54 per cent and Eni Norge with 11.50 per cent.

The area in this license consists of parts of blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11. The well will be drilled about five kilometers north of the Norne field.

Production license 128 was awarded on February 28, 1986 in licensing round 10-B on the Norwegian shelf.
