Submarine Cable Damage Between Maldives and Sri Lanka Disrupts Communication

Maldives telecommunications provider Dhiraagu announces that due to a damage caused to the Maldives-Sri Lanka international submarine cable, the international capacity going out of Maldives have been affected.

Limited service is restored through Dhiraagu’s diversity routes and customers using internet will experience a degraded service.

The fault on the cable has been located approximately at 26km off Sri Lanka at a depth of 40m, and the cable repair ship is being mobilized to carry out the repairs. The company will inform the customers as soon as they get an estimated recovery time.

Meanwhile technicians are working to expand the diversity routes to minimize the impact on customers. During this period priority will be given to restore browsing and email service for customers using the internet.
