Top Ships to Acquire One from Hyundai Mipo

Top Ships Inc. has agreed to acquire a 50,000 dwt ECO-type newbuilding product/chemical tanker, which is currently under construction at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in Korea.

The purchase price of the newbuilding is $37.0 million, and is payable as follows: 20% as an initial deposit and 80% on delivery of the vessel.

The above newbuilding is the latest IMO II MR design with the highest fuel efficiency. The design is the utmost HMD concept of hull shape and propulsion efficiency leading to a fuel saving of 6-7 T/day compared to the average consumption of world existing MR fleet.

The newbuild will have an attained Energy Design Index (EEDI) falling already well within the IMO phase – in 3 requirement due for vessels to be built after Jan 1st 2025, being of 31,5 % lower than the current IMO reference line.

New vessel is slated for delivery from the yard in the first quarter of 2015.
