The approval was granted on 29 April after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval applications determined the systems met the required requirements. The system was examined and tested by independent laboratory DNV GL.

As explained, the treatment principle of the GUARDIAN-US consists of filtration and UV treatment at intake and UV treatment at discharge.

This approval covers models with maximum intake treatment rated capacities between 60 cbm/h and 3,000 cbm/h, according to the USCG MSC.

“The Hyde GUARDIAN-US BWMS  may be installed in hazardous locations to which it is certified on a US flag vessel. The system’s control panel and power supply panel must remain outside of hazardous locations,” the USCG MSC said.

“The BWMS may be installed in hazardous locations to which it is certified on a foreign flag vessel subject to approval of the foreign administration.”

In addition to the thirty approved BWMS systems, ten more are pending approvals from the coast guard.
