Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a phone call from Offshore Marine Contractors that the lift boat Lucas Bourg was concerned about the stability of their vessel due to the predicted 18-foot sea state in the area.

The crew of the Lucas Bourg abandoned ship using the crane and man basket on board. The offshore supply vessel ThunderAmerica evacuated 11 of 13 crewmembers from the Lucas Bourg and transported them to Pascagoula, Miss.

The master and crane operator remained aboard the Lucas Bourg and requested Coast Guard assistance.

Watchstanders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans. Once on scene, the aircrew hoisted the two remaining crewmembers aboard and transferred them to Air Station New Orleans.

There were no reported injuries or medical concerns. The abandoned vessel is currently stable and is being remotely monitored by the Coast Guard at Sector Mobile for any potential threats to the environment.
