VIDEO: Thun Tankers hails delivery of first eco R-class tanker
Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers, part of the Erik Thun Group, has taken delivery of its first eco Resource efficient-class (R-class) tankers, Thun Resource.
As informed, the vessel is the first in a series of eight R-class ships built by Scheepswerf Ferus Smit BV. The ship was launched in November last year.
The ship has a length of 115 meters, a breadth of 15 meters and a cargo tank capacity of 9540 cbm. It will be technically managed by MF Shipping Group and entering into long-term employment with Nynas AB.
Thun Resource features adaptive propulsion to minimize energy usage, and UPS battery pack. Furthermore, it is ready for shore electricity connection.
The eight ordered R-class vessels are part of Thun Tankers fleet renewal program to meet and exceed future demands.
“Continual improvement is our objective, and these ordered vessels are good examples of how we make a difference in the global perspective by being responsible and do our part. To further widen the offer towards our clients, we have combined our long experience with several new features thus reducing our climate footprint further. The new ships will be reliable and easy to operate in the intense coastal trade which they are built for, to function well over the entire lifespan,” the company noted in a social media post.
“With Thun Resource delivered and in trade, we walk our sustainability talk, enabling Nynas AB with the most resource efficient, high quality coastal tanker available for the trade,” Joakim Lund, CCO at Thun Tankers BV concluded.
