Westcon has been given the contract of modifying the flotel Safe Scandinavia to a support vessel for drilling operations.

Westcon to convert flotel into tender support vessel

This will contribute to more efficient drilling operations and deeper wells for Statoil at Oseberg Øst.
“Safe Scandinavia” is an accommodation rig today, and will be modified to a tender support vessel (TSV) so that the platform can store and treat drilling fluid and cuttings as Statoil’s drilling operations at Oseberg Øst continue. The modification will be performed at Westcon Yards in Olen.

“We will perform all engineering, procurement and pre-fabrications of units that will be installed on board during the yard stay. The rig will arrive at Olen for the modification job early next year and the project will be completed in the first half of 2015,” says rig manager at Westcon, Malvin Eide.

Prosafe is the owner of “Safe Scandinavia”, and Westcon has completed work on Prosafe’s rigs several times earlier. This is the first time Westcon will do this type of modification project where an accommodation rig is modified into a TSV.

“This is an exciting project where we project we can show our competence within rig modifications. We are satisfied that Prosafe chose Westcon to do the modification of «Safe Scandinavia»”, Eide says.

At the moment, the drilling rig West Alpha is together with the world’s largest jackup rig, Maersk Intrepid, at the quay of Westcon Yards in Ølen.
