Worldwide offshore rig count in June down 65 units year over year

The worldwide offshore rig count in June 2020 dropped by 65 rigs year-over-year and 2 rigs sequentially, according to a report by Baker Hughes.

Baker Hughes splits its report into an international and North America one, which combine into a worldwide rig count.

The international rig count for June 2020 was 781 down 24 from the 805 counted in May 2020, and down 357 from the 1,138 counted in June 2019.

The international offshore rig count for June 2020 was 194, down 1 from the 195 counted in May 2020, and down 52 from the 246 counted in June 2019.

Looking at separate regions, the Asia Pacific region had the highest number of offshore rigs during June 2020, totalling 91 units – 1 less than in May 2020. This is down 4 rigs from 95 in June 2019.

In the Middle East region, June’s rig count remained flat with the one from May with 44 units active. This number is down 10 from June 2019.

Latin America is in third place with 31 active units in June. Europe is fourth with 25, while Africa is in fifth place with just 3 active units – an 18 unit drop from the 21 counted in June 2019.

The average U.S. rig count for June 2020 was 274, down 74 from the 348 counted in May 2020, and down 695 from the 969 counted in June 2019.

The average Canadian rig count for June 2020 was 18, down 5 from the 23 counted in May 2020, and down 96 from the 114 counted in June 2019.

The worldwide rig count for June 2020 was 1,073, down 103 from the 1,176 counted in May 2020, and down 1,148 from the 2,221 counted in June 2019.

The worldwide offshore rig count for June 2020 was 208, down 2 from 210 in May 2020 and down 65 from the 273 in June 2019.
