A group of Aberdeen fish merchants plan to launch a legal action against the Scottish Executive, claiming it’s unable or unwilling to prevent illegal landings of fish. The Fish Trade Equal Opportunity Group says the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency is failing to carry out its policing role effectively. It’s been a tough few years for Scottish fishermen, swingeing quota cuts, decreasing stocks and an overall downturn in the industry have all added to their woes.
