Fires often break out in places which are very difficult for fire extinguishing measures to reach. In the stilt-like portal stackers which move the containers around in modern seaports, the engine compartment is more than 10 meters above the ground. Minimax GmbH & Co. KG in Bad Oldesloe has now developed a special fire protection system to protect these van carriers. Recently some 100 vehicles in Hamburg’s EUROGATE Container Terminal were fitted out with the North German company’s CO2 fire extinguishing system. The system has already proven its value a number of times.
